Sydney Panel: Tax leaders’ perspective on the next two years – a crystal ball discussion

The IFA Australia Branch together with The Corporate Tax Association is pleased to invite you to the following hybrid event

Join us for a panel discussion on the current tax landscape in Australia, and the key developments in the pipeline for tax leaders over the next two years. The discussion will share insights about expectations for changes in the law and its administration, and how tax leaders are working to prepare their organisations to face a new range of domestic and international tax measures.

This hybrid event is free for members of IFA Australia and members of the CTA only.  Corporate IFA members can include four attendees free of charge, and additional attendees may participate for free if they are individual IFA members.

Panel


Anita Au, General Manager – Tax, Treasury and Risk, Frasers Property Australia

Anita is the General Manager – Taxation, Treasury and Risk at Frasers Property Australia. She has over 15 years’ experience in tax and is responsible for overseeing the tax function for Frasers Property’s residential, retail, commercial, build-to-rent, industrial and hospitality businesses. In recent years Anita’s portfolio has expanded to also include responsibilities for Treasury and Risk.

Prior to joining Frasers Property Australia, Anita spent a number of years in international professional services and law firms specialising in tax in the property and fund management industry. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Laws, Masters of Laws, and is a trained and registered legal practitioner. Anita is a current member of the Property Council of Australia’s Income Tax Committee and the Treasurers’ Roundtable Committee.


Darren Day, Head of Tax, Woolworths

Darren is the Head of Tax at Woolworths Group Limited, a role he has held since 2005. Prior to his role at Woolworths Darren worked in tax roles at other large, listed corporates and prior to that spent more than 10 years in tax advisory at KPMG.

Darren has vast experience on a wide range of income tax, GST and other tax matters. In his current role Darren has extensive engagement with the ATO in respect of both transaction work and ongoing compliance and assurance reviews.


Natalie Hickman, Senior Tax Director, Optus

Natalie is a Senior Tax Director at Optus where she advises and supports the Optus/Singtel Group across various product lines and functions in developing and implementing practical tax solutions, including partnering with key business stakeholders to provide tax advice on both domestic and international projects. Her role also requires her to manage a full range of the Group’s tax compliance obligations.

Prior to joining Optus, Natalie was a Senior Associate at Clayton Utz where she gained a broad range of experience in both tax advisory and tax dispute matters and acted for local and international corporates. Her experience also includes 4 years at EY, including a 2-year secondment to the EY London office.


Steve Southon, Chief Tax Officer, NAB

Steve has been NAB’s Chief Tax Officer since March 2013. He has more than 31 years’ experience in corporate taxation with 23 of those spent in financial services. Steve holds Bachelor degrees in both Financial Administration and Law, Masters degrees in both Taxation and Law and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants.

Steve is also a past president of the Corporate Tax Association.

 


Michelle de Niese, Executive Director, Corporate Tax Association (Chair)

Michelle has been the Executive Director of the Corporate Tax Association since January 2015. Prior to taking on the role as Executive Director she was the Assistant Director of the Corporate Tax Association for over nine years. Michelle has extensive experience as an external stakeholder in the development of Australia’s tax policy and law, as well as aspects of tax administration.

Michelle is the co-chair of the Large Business Liaison Group and an executive committee member of the International Fiscal Association.
