Speaker: Andrew Mills, Director, Tax Policy and Technical, The Tax Institute of Australia

Andrew currently undertakes a number of roles in the tax profession – Director of Tax Policy & Technical at The Tax Institute, a Senior Fellow at Melbourne University Law School, a member of the Australian Executive Committee of the International Fiscal Association and a member of the Tax and Transfer Policy Institute Advisory Board. Andrew was Second Commissioner of Taxation from 2013 – 2019 where he had overall responsibility for the ATO’s law practice, including law interpretation, dispute prevention and resolution, and the ATO’s role in policy and law design. Prior to his time as Second Commissioner, Andrew was a Director at Greenwoods & Freehills for more than 20 years and Managing Director of the firm from 2006 to 2011. Andrew is a former Governor of the Taxation Research Foundation. He has also spent time as an in-house corporate advisor, involved in Treasury and ATO engagement on behalf of industry bodies, as well as in a range of roles in the ATO in the 1980s.

Speaker: Clint Harding: Partner, Arnold Bloch Leibler

Clint advises public and private organisations, high net worth individuals and private groups in relation to corporate and international tax, the taxation of financial instruments and transactions, and the management of tax audits and disputes with the ATO. Over the years, he has developed strong relationships at the highest levels of the ATO, Treasury, the Office of the Inspector-General of Taxation and the Board of Taxation. Clint is the National Chair of the Taxation Committee of the Law Council of Australia and sits on the Taxation Institute’s Large Business & International committee. Clint is also a current member of the NTLG – the peak consultative forum between the ATO and the professional bodies.

Ellen is a Partner at PwC Tax in Sydney, specialising in mergers & acquisitions and finance transactions. She advises on a range of domestic and international M&A transactions, corporate restructures, post-acquisition integrations, international tax planning, distressed debt transactions, infrastructure investments and financial arrangements. Ellen is the chair of the Taxation Institute’s Large Business & International committee and has recently joined the Australian Executive Committee of the International Fiscal Association.
