The Hon. Justice Jennifer Davies is a judge of the Federal Court of Australia. She was appointed in 2013 and is one of the National Coordinating Judges of the Taxation National Practice Area of the Federal Court. Prior to her appointment, she practised as a barrister at the Victorian Bar from 1983 to 2009, and from 2009 until 2013 she was a Judge of the Supreme Court of Victoria in the Trial Division. As a barrister, Justice Davies practised in revenue, commercial, corporations and administrative law. In 2004 she was appointed as Senior Counsel and is a former President of the Tax Bar Association of the Victorian Bar. Justice Davies is a Senior Fellow at the University of Melbourne lecturing in postgraduate courses and is on the board of the International Association of Tax Judges.
The Hon. Justice Thomas Thawley practised at the Sydney Bar for twenty years and was appointed to the Federal Court in 2018. Justice Thawley is one of the National Coordinating Judges of the Taxation National Practice Area of the Federal Court, together with Justice Davies. Justice Thawley is also a Deputy President of the Administrative Appeals Tribunal and an Additional Judge of the Supreme Court of the Australian Capital Territory.
Fiona Dillon is the ATO’s Chief Tax Counsel. She has 20+ years in technical roles (including on rulings, trusts, Division 7A, TOFA, international arrangements, anti-avoidance) predominately in the ATO though also with a number of years in private practice. From 2017-2019 Fiona was Australia’s Minister-Counsellor (Taxation) to the OECD in Paris.
Chloe Burnett is a Senior Counsel and has appeared and advised in relation to a number of international tax disputes, including two of the significant Australian transfer pricing cases that have gone to trial, Chevron and SingTel. She has taught in the Sydney Law School LLM since 2006 and currently teaches Statutory Interpretation. Chloe is an active IFA member and follows transfer pricing and international tax developments around the globe.
Dr Niv Tadmore is a partner at Jones Day, with a focus on international tax, tax controversy and the resolution of transfer pricing disputes. He is the chair of the global IFA Supervisory Board and president of the Australia Branch.
