About the Panel Discussion
Australia is building the infrastructure of the future, with foreign private capital playing a large role in its funding and in Australian Mergers & Acquisitions more broadly. In addition, Australian superannuation funds are major investors in foreign infrastructure and assets. Our panel will explore the current state of flux in Australia’s international tax settings for these large, cross-border investments.

Chair: Luke Imbriano – Partner, Corrs Chambers WestgarthLuke is an experienced tax lawyer specialising in the provision of income tax controversy advice and dispute resolution services. He advises large domestic and multinational taxpayers throughout the entire tax dispute lifecycle – from pre and post ATO engagement during large M&A transactions, through to assisting taxpayers prepare for, and resolve, complex ATO reviews, audits and disputes. Luke’s focus is on private sector taxpayers in the real property and infrastructure sectors, ranging from owners and operators of real estate and infrastructure assets to investors in infrastructure projects, including pension and private equity funds. Luke is known for his strong technical expertise, critical thinking and commercial solutions which lead to the resolution of complex income tax issues. He is named as a key lawyer by The Legal 500 Asia Pacific and is a committee member for a number of The Tax Institute events, where he regularly presents on emerging income tax issues. |

Aaron Bennett – Assistant Commissioner, Australian Taxation OfficeAaron is the Assistant Commissioner for the Private Capital Program in Public Groups at the ATO and is responsible for leading the ATO’s Private Equity and Infrastructure strategies. Prior to taking up this role, Aaron was a Senior Technical Adviser and Acting Assistant Commissioner in the ATO’s Tax Counsel Network. Aaron also has engagement and assurance experience from leading the ATO’s managed investment trust assurance program, as well as policy and law design experience from his time working at Treasury. |

Winnie Kong – Managing Director, Brookfield Asset ManagementWinnie is a Managing Director in Brookfield’s Infrastructure Group with responsibility for Asia Pacific. Prior to joining Brookfield in 2009, Winnie held roles with a listed Australian infrastructure power company and a leading accounting firm. Her experience extends to tax structuring, acquisitions, divestments, asset management, and cross-border issues. Winnie holds a Master of Taxation Law and a Bachelor of Commerce, Accounting and Finance degree and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants. |

Daniel Mobrici – Senior Manager, Investments Tax, AustralianSuper
Daniel leads the Australian Investments Tax at AustralianSuper, Australia’s largest superannuation fund. Since joining the Fund in 2018, he has provided tax support across AustralianSuper’s global investment portfolio, including a variety of infrastructure, property, private credit and private equity investments. Daniel is also a key contributor to the Fund’s tax advocacy and tax policy initiatives. Before joining AustralianSuper, he spent over eight years in Deloitte’s International Tax team in Melbourne advising on cross-border investments and international tax matters. |
